    Andrée Desautels

    (Marie) Andrée (Carmen) Desautels, CM, instrumentalist, musicologist, teacher (born 9 October 1923 in Montreal, QC; died 23 February 2023). Andrée Desautels taught the history of music and musicology at the Connservatoire de musique du Quebec (CMM) from 1949 to 1988. She also taught at the Université de Montréal, the École Vincent-d’Indy, and the international Sessions of the Château d’Argenteuil in Brussels, Belgium, and is credited with introducing the ondes Martenot to Canada. She was also active in Youth and Music Canada (JMC) and was responsible for programming the organization’s performances at Expo 67. She was made a Member of the Order of Canada for being “the first Francophone to write about music in Canada” and for “pav[ing] the way for many researchers in this field.”

    Andrew James “Boomer” Eykelenboom, soldier, medic (born 3 November 1982 in Edmonton, AB; died 11 August 2006 near Spin Boldak, Afghanistan). Eykelenboom was a medic with 1 Field Ambulance who was killed during the war in Afghanistan. He is believed to be the first Canadian medic killed in combat since the Korean War.

    Andrew Furey

    Andrew John Furey, doctor, politician, premier of Newfoundland and Labrador 2020–25 (born 2 July 1975 in St. John’s, NL). Andrew Furey built his career as an orthopedic surgeon and humanitarian worker. Though lacking political experience, he became premier of Newfoundland and Labrador in 2020, winning the Liberal Party’s leadership race following the resignation of Dwight Ball. Furey then led the Liberals to a majority government in the election of 2021. While in office, Furey played an active role in effectively managing the COVID-19 pandemic. He also renegotiated the province’s hydroelectricity-sharing agreement with Hydro-Québec. Furey announced his resignation in February 2025 and was officially replaced by John Hogan on 9 May.
