Spruce Grove, Alberta, incorporated as a city in 1986, population 37,645 (2021 census), 34,108 (2016 census). The city of Spruce Grove is located just west of Edmonton and is the eastern neighbour of the town Stony Plain.
French and Scottish settlers established a community at Spruce Grove in 1891. The community was named for the spruce trees once common in the area and grew up around a station on the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway (1908). It serves an agricultural district and has an industrial base that includes agriculture and food processing operations, secondary forest products manufacturing, metal fabrication and light manufacturing. Since the 1960s, many residents commute to Edmonton for work. The Spruce Grove Grain Elevator Museum is the last remaining wooden grain elevator on the CN Rail line west of Edmonton.
