    C6 General Purpose Machine Gun

    The C6 is a 7.62 mm medium or general purpose machine gun. It is based on the FN (Fabrique Nationale) MAG (Mitrailleuse d’Appui Général), which was designed in the 1950s. It first entered service with the Canadian Army around 1977. The C6 is used in both dismounted and mounted roles, primarily by armoured and infantry units. Beginning in 2017, Canada started the process of upgrading its C6 machine guns with the C6A1.

    C7 Rifle and C8 Carbine

    The C7 automatic rifle and C8 carbine automatic rifle are 5.56 mm-calibre assault rifles. In 1982, the Department of National Defence contracted Diemaco (later, Colt Canada) to produce the C7 and C8. Canada adopted these two rifles to replace the FN C1 rifle and C1 submachine gun. Canadian forces used the C7 and C8 for over 35 years. Many other countries have adopted the C7 or C8, including NATO allies such as the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Denmark and Norway. Some Canadian police services have also adopted semi-automatic C8 carbines. In March 2026, Canada announced it would adopt the Canadian Modular Assault Rifle to replace older C7 and C8 rifles.

    Cadastral Surveying

    Cadastre is a technical term used in Europe for the registration of land in a given municipal area such as a city or a county. A “cadastral survey” is the measuring, marking and description of parcels of land sufficient for their correct entry into the public land register. It is also the marking on the ground of parcels in accordance with a description in the register. In the latter instance, this could be either an original survey or a retracement when the position of the original boundary is not clear. Within provincial boundaries in Canada, land ownership and all fiscal matters pertaining to land are under provincial jurisdiction. The provinces set the rules and procedures for the cadastral surveys of their lands, including the licensing of surveyors. In Yukon, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and federal lands in the provinces, such as Indian reserves and national parks, the federal government has this responsibility.
