W.C. Mackenzie
(1912 – 2008)
William Campbell “Bill” Mackenzie was born in New Aberdeen, Nova Scotia. He attended Dalhousie University where he earned an MA in economics and public administration. He held several positions with the Nova Scotia provincial government and the federal government. In 1948 he joined the federal Department of Fisheries, focusing on developing economic and statistical tools. He became a research and planning officer, and then a member of the federal and provincial Newfoundland Fisheries Development Committee. Among other positions, he was senior policy advisor on planning for Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Mackenzie received the Public Service Merit Award for his fisheries work.
