Maximilian Smith
Maximilian
holds a doctorate in Canadian medical history from York University. His
doctoral research examined the intersecting roles of physicians, politicians and philanthropists in the development of mental healthcare institutions in
19th-century Ontario. His current research interests include the
development of Toronto’s public health infrastructure in the mid-19th
century, the historical effects of race and gender on health care policy in
Canada, and contemporary barriers to the provision of medical assistance in
dying in Ontario.
