James G. Dykes
(c. 1920 – 2006)
James Grant Dykes was born and raised in Winnipeg. He earned a bachelor of commerce degree at the University of Manitoba. During the Second World War he served in the Royal Canadian Navy aboard HMCS Athabascan and was discharged with the rank of Lieutenant-Commander. He entered public service as a Trade Commissioner in Ottawa and London, England. He then became an Industrial Commissioner in Windsor, Ontario. From 1954 until 1985, Dykes was president of the Motor Vehicle Manufacturers’ Association. He was instrumental in the creation of the Canada – USA Auto Pact. He was the author of Canada’s Automotive Industry (1970).
