Otto Morando. Tenor, teacher, b Prague 1869?, d Los Angeles 16 Nov 1953. After study in Austria and Italy he sang in opera in various European centres before turning to teaching. During his years in Toronto, teaching privately and at the Canadian Academy of Music 1913-24 (and also teaching during the summers 1920-2 in Victoria, BC), he developed many young singers, among them Eva Baird, Mary Bothwell, Douglas Stanbury, Margaret George, Gideon Hicks, John Moncrieff, Nellye Gill, and Victor Edmonds (b Edmond Petch). Morando moved to California in 1924 and was active there as a voice coach for film celebrities, notably Franchot Tone, Bebe Daniels, Joan Crawford, Marion Davies, and Charlotte Greenwood.
