Founded by folklorists Mario Forest, Yves Lambert, André Marchand, Gilles Cantin and Pierre Laporte in 1976, La Bottine souriante presents a repertoire of traditional folk music collected from the regions of Québec. In the late 1980s, the group appeared in Europe and in several Canadian cities, winning the JUNO for best traditional album (1988). La Bottine tried their luck with a brass section, and borrowed world rhythms that proved audience favourites, as evidenced by their 4 Félix awards in the 1990s. Now, for most of the year, La Bottine souriante disseminates Québécois folklore on five continents. They received the BBC Folk Award in London in 1999.
