    Ancaster Bloody Assize of 1814

    The Bloody Assize of Ancaster was a series of trials conducted after the War of 1812, in 1814, in which 19 men accused of supporting the American cause were officially charged with High Treason. The Ontario Archaeological and Historic Sites Board erected a memorial plaque in Ancaster to commemorate the trials.

    Andrew Qappik

    Andrew Qappik, CM, RCA, Inuk graphic artist and printmaker (born 25 February 1964 in Nunataq, in what is now known as Nunavut). Qappik helped design the Nunavut flag and coat of arms, as well as the logo for the Government of Nunavut. In 2017, he was appointed to the Order of Canada “for his contributions to defining the visual culture of Nunavut as a master printmaker and sculptor.” He is based in Panniqtuuq (Pangnirtung), Nunavut.

    Animals in Canada

    Animals are many-celled, responsive heterotrophs (eaters of various things). Herbivores eat plants; carnivores eat flesh; omnivores, such as humans, eat nearly everything. Parasites inhabit and subsist in other organisms. The shape of animals, the way they move, and how they sense, seize and swallow food suggest that the need to find an organic food source is one of the most important characteristics of their lives. Animals range from less than 0.1 mm (some rotifers and gastrotrichs) to 30 m in length, weighing as much as 150 tonnes (blue whale).
