Lloyd Robertson, OC, television and radio news anchor, journalist (born 19 January 1934 in Stratford, ON; died 4 August 2026). Lloyd Robertson was one of Canada's most recognized and respected television news anchors. He began his broadcasting career in 1952 at CJCS Radio in his hometown of Stratford, Ontario. From 1970 to 1976, Robertson anchored CBC's The National before joining CTV in 1976. In 1983, Robertson was appointed chief news anchor and senior news editor. He was voted Canada's most trusted news anchor by TV Guide readers 11 years in a row. He received numerous awards, including three Gemini Awards for best anchor/interviewer (1992, 1994, 1997) and the Central Canadian Broadcasters Association’s Broadcaster of the Year Award (1992). He was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1998. In 2007, he became the first journalist to be inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame.

Career Highlights
Lloyd Robertson began his broadcasting career in 1952 at CJCS Radio in Stratford. In 1953, he joined CJOY in Guelph before becoming a staff announcer with CBC TV in 1954. He worked in Winnipeg and Ottawa before moving to Toronto to join CBC Weekend News.
From 1970 to 1976, Robertson anchored CBC's The National before joining CTV’s news department in October of 1976. He co-anchored the CTV National News with Harvey Kirck. In 1983, he was appointed chief news anchor and senior news editor. During his tenure at CTV, he has also hosted CTV's awarding-winning investigative news series W5 as well as several of his own specials from Australia, Hong Kong, China, and Great Britain.
As evidence of his remarkable popularity with Canadian viewers, Lloyd Robertson was voted Canada's most trusted news anchor by TV Guide readers 11 years in a row. He was also chosen as Canada's favourite news anchor by readers of TV Times, the Toronto Sun and NOW Magazine.
In July 2010, Roberson announced that he would be retiring from the CTV National News with Lloyd Robertson in mid-2011 but would continue in various roles at the network, including as co-host of W5. Robertson's autobiography, The Kind of Life It's Been, documenting his 60-year career, was released by Harper Collins Canada in 2012.
