E.W. Humphrys
(1913 – 2005)
Edward William “Ted” Humphrys was born on a farm in Alberta and grew up in Saskatchewan. He became an engineer and was the first one hired by the Northwest Territories Power Commission (later renamed the Northern Canada Power Commission) in 1948 to oversee the construction and operation of power plants in Canada’s northern territories. He worked for the Commission for most of his career and was involved in the development of many northern power projects. In 1993 the Snare Rapids Hydro Plant was dedicated as the Ted Humphrys Power Plant in his honour. He was named the Commission’s chairman emeritus in 1998.
