Saskatchewan Choral Federation

Saskatchewan Choral Federation. Founded 5 Aug 1978 at a meeting in Fort San, Sask, as a non-profit organization to promote choral activities in Saskatchewan and to encourage the performance of choral works by Canadian composers. The federation is funded by grants from Saskatchewan Sport Trust, the Dept of Culture and Youth, and private industry.

Special events and programs include Saskatchewan Sings, an annual week-long event allowing choirs to sing under the leadership of prominent guest conductors including John Alldis, Gerald Fagan, James Fankhauser, Elmer Iseler, Brian Jackson, Wayne Riddell, and Jon Washburn. A three-day spring version of Saskatchewan Sings is held alternately with a Festival of Canadian Choral Music. The federation organizes teen choir camps, choirs in concert, and workshops by request, and provides funding for member choirs to develop and expand programs which might otherwise not be possible. A two-day vocal jazz workshop titled Project! Sing! was presented in Moose Jaw in 1990 by the federation and the award winning vocal jazz group Solstice.

The federation operates a choral music library holding 4500 entries, and published a Newsletter 1978-85, which then became The Bulletin, appearing six times a year in 1990.
