Flynn, Edmund James

Edmund James Flynn, premier of Québec 1896-97 (b at Percé, Canada E 16 Nov 1847; d at Québec C 7 June 1927). A meticulous politician, he proved a highly competent minister of natural resources, but when asked to succeed Premier TAILLON, he was unable to breathe life into the moribund Conservative Party. He served as premier from May 1896 to May 1897. His party was defeated in the elections of 1897, 1900 and 1904, thereby ushering in a Liberal regime that was to last until the 1936 election of Maurice DUPLESSIS.
