Saskatchewan Junior Concert Society
The Saskatchewan Junior Concert Society. Founded by Barbara Cass-Beggs in 1957 as the Regina Junior Concert Society to sponsor musical presentations for children with an eye to developing future audiences. It was incorporated under the new name in 1959. In the first year staff members of the Regina Cons gave three concerts. Subsequent years have seen spring and fall tours of over 70 Saskatchewan communities, presenting about 40 concerts per tour to over 30,000 children. The folksinger Alan Mills accompanied by Bram Morrison of Sharon, Lois & Bram fame, gave the first provincial tour, and Mills and the puppeteer Daniel Llords each toured several times. Other artists have included Gordie Brandt, Howard Leyton-Brown, Malcolm Lowe, Lloyd Blackman, Juliette Alvin, Robin Harrison, Eugene Kash, Tom Kines, the Baroque Trio of Montreal and the Huggett Family.
