The Ministère de la Marine is the section of the French government that administered Canada during its last 100 years as a French colony. The Ministère de la Marine — variously described as a ministry, department, or secretariat of state — administered France’s navy, colonies and seaborne trade.

The Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI, also known as the Patricia's) is one of three permanent Regular Force infantry regiments of the Canadian Army. Its current structure consists of three battalions and a reserve battalion, for a total of 2,000 soldiers lodged at bases in Edmonton, Alberta, and Shilo, Manitoba. The regiment has a proud history of service, dating back to its creation in the First World War.

The Royal 22e Régiment (R22eR) is one of the three infantry regiments of the Canadian Regular Force (see Canadian Armed Forces). It is a francophone regiment made up of five battalions, of which three belong to the Regular Force and two to the Reserve Force. In 2014, the R22eR celebrated its 100th anniversary. Its headquarters are at the Citadelle de Québec. The regiment has participated in all of Canada’s major military engagements since the First World War, including the United Nations peace missions and the campaign in Afghanistan.

A regiment is a body of troops composed of squadrons, batteries or companies; it is often divided into battalions for military operations. A single-battalion regiment ranges in size from 300 to 1,000.

The Canadian Corps, a force of 100,000 soldiers by late 1916, fought for the entire war on the Western Front, along a static trench system that ran 700 kilometres from Switzerland to the North Sea.

More than 2,800 trained civilian nurses enlisted with the Canadian army during the First World War, becoming the first women in the modern world to hold military commissions as officers. As members of the Canadian Army Medical Corps (CAMC), the nursing sisters treated and cared for wounded soldiers overseas and at home. At least 58 died from disease or enemy action during the war.

HMCS Conestoga was a basic training establishment for the Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRCNS) during the Second World War. Located in Galt, Ontario, it operated from 1942 to 1945. Of nearly 6,800 women who served in the WRCNS, most trained at Conestoga.

On 1 February 1968, the Canadian Forces Reorganization Act (Bill C-243) came into effect, and the Royal Canadian Navy, Canadian Army and Royal Canadian Air Force ceased to exist as separate entities. The three previously separate armed services were combined into a unified Canadian Armed Forces. Liberal Minister of Defence Paul Hellyer drove the change. Its merits were widely debated before and after the Act came into effect. By 2014, many of the changes introduced by unification had been reversed.

The Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR) is one of three permanent, regular army infantry regiments of the Canadian Armed Forces. The regimental headquarters is in Petawawa, Ontario. Consisting of three battalions and a reserve battalion, the RCR has a proud history of military service dating back to 1863.

The Regimental Band of the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry (RHLI) is the oldest enlisted band in Canada. Formed in 1866 by Peter Grossman, it has been led by Captain Ryan W. Baker since 2016.

32 Canadian Brigade Group (32 CBG) is a formation of the Canadian Army Reserve. There are 13 units in the group, including armoured, artillery, engineer, signals, infantry and logistics units. The units are located in Ontario. Brigade Group headquarters is located in Toronto, Ontario. In total, 32 CBG includes more than 3,000 members.

37 Canadian Brigade Group (37 CBG) is a formation of the Canadian Army Reserve. There are 9 units in the group, including armoured, artillery, engineer, signals, infantry and logistics units. The units are located in New Brunswick and Newfoundland. Brigade Group headquarters is located in Moncton, New Brunswick. In total, 37 CBG includes approximately 1,400 members.

34 Canadian Brigade Group (34 CBG) is a formation of the Canadian Army Reserve. There are 15 units in the group, including armoured, artillery, engineer, signals, infantry and logistics units. Nine units are based on the island of Montreal. Brigade Group headquarters is located in Saint-Hubert, Quebec. In total, 34 CBG includes about 2,500 members of the Army Reserve.

31 Canadian Brigade Group (31 CBG) is a formation of the Canadian Army Reserve. There are 12 units in the group, including armoured, artillery, engineer, signals, infantry and logistics units. The units are located in Ontario. Brigade Group headquarters is located in London, Ontario. In total, 31 CBG includes nearly 2,500 members.

38 Canadian Brigade Group (38 CBG) is a formation of the Canadian Army Reserve. There are 13 units in the group, including armoured, artillery, engineer, signals, infantry and logistics units. The units are located in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and north-western Ontario. Brigade Group headquarters is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In total, 38 CBG includes more than 1,200 reservists.

41 Canadian Brigade Group (41 CBG) is a formation of the Canadian Army Reserve. There are 9 units in the group, including armoured, artillery, engineer, signals, infantry and logistics units. The units are located in Alberta and the Northwest Territories. Brigade Group headquarters is located in Calgary, Alberta. In total, 41 CBG includes about 1,700 reservists.

33 Canadian Brigade Group (33 CBG) is a formation of the Canadian Army Reserve. There are 15 units in the group, including armoured, artillery, engineer, signals, infantry and logistics units. The units are located in Ontario. Brigade Group headquarters is located in Ottawa, Ontario.

36 Canadian Brigade Group (36 CBG) is a formation of the Canadian Army Reserve. There are 11 units in the group, including armoured, artillery, engineer, signals, infantry and logistics units. The units are located in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Brigade Group headquarters is located in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In total, 36 CBG includes approximately 1,600 members.

35 Canadian Brigade Group (35 CBG) is a formation of the Canadian Army Reserve. There are 12 units in the group, including armoured, artillery, engineer, signals, infantry and logistics units. The units are based in Eastern Quebec. Brigade Group headquarters is located in Quebec City, Quebec. In total, 35 CBG includes about 2,200 reservists and 60 members of the Regular Force.

39 Canadian Brigade Group (39 CBG) is a formation of the Canadian Army Reserve. There are 11 units in the group, including armoured, artillery, engineer, signals, infantry and logistics units. The units are located in British Columbia. Brigade Group headquarters is located in Vancouver.
