George Keen, salesman, co-operative leader (b at Stoke-on-Trent, Eng 8 May 1869; d at Brantford, Ont 4 Dec 1953). Keen immigrated to Canada in 1904. In 1906 he helped organize the Brantford Co-operative Society, a consumer co-operative.

Moses Hart, businessman, landowner (b at Trois-Rivières 26 Nov 1768; d there 15 Oct 1852), brother of Benjamin HART. An eccentric but adept businessman, Hart began his career in Sorel by running a general store and then extended into the import-export business.

Gilbert LaBine, prospector, mining promoter (b at Westmeath, Ont 10 Feb 1890; d at Toronto 8 June 1977). He and his brother Charlie formed ELDORADO GOLD MINES (1926) in Manitoba. When the mine petered out, he used the company's

Jacques Bougie, administrator (b at Montréal, 1947). Jacques Bougie graduated from the Université de Montréal in law, and from l'École des Hautes Etudes Commerciales in business administration. He began working for Alcan in 1979 as manager for the company's Beauharnois smelter.

Leon Joseph Koerner, lumberman, philanthropist (b at Nový Hrozenkov, Austria-Hungary [Czechoslovakia] 24 May 1892; d at Vancouver 26 Sept 1972).

H. Harrison McCain, executive (born 3 November 1927 in Florenceville, New Brunswick; died 19 March 2004 in Boston, Massachusetts). The son of an exporter of seed potatoes, McCain graduated from Acadia U and worked as a sales executive for Irving Oil Co.

Canadian Pacific Railway bought out his firm and 11 others in 1941 and appointed him general manager of the western lines (1942) and president of CP Air (1947). He inaugurated CP Air passenger services to Australia, Japan and Hong Kong and by 1957 had added a further 25 000 km of flight paths.

Malcolm Wallace McCutcheon, lawyer, businessman, politician (b at London, Ont 18 May 1906; d there 23 Jan 1969). Director of over 20 companies and financial institutions, McCutcheon resigned them in 1962 when he became minister without portfolio in the DIEFENBAKER government.

Cluny Macpherson, doctor, inventor, businessman, justice of the peace (b at St John's Mar 1879; d there 16 Nov 1966).

James MacBraire, soldier, merchant, shipowner, justice of the peace (b at Enniscorthy, Wexford, Ire 1760; d at Berwick on Tweed, Eng 24 Mar 1832). He is first recorded in Harbour Grace, Nfld, in the 1780s working as a clerk for a Bristol firm engaged in the cod fishery.

Gilbert McMicken, businessman, politician, magistrate, police commissioner (born 13 October 1813 in Glenluce, Wigtonshire, Scotland; died 6 March 1891 in Winnipeg, MB). McMicken was head of the Western Frontier Constabulary, Canada’s first secret service, which was established in 1864 in response to the American Civil War. He was also the first commissioner of the Dominion Police, Canada’s first federal police body and forerunner of the RCMP, which was instituted in 1868 following the assassination of Thomas D’Arcy McGee. McMicken served in municipal government in Niagara, in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada (1858–61) and in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba.

Eric Herbert Molson, industrial capitalist (b at Montréal 16 Sept 1937). Molson was educated at Bishop's, Princeton and McGill.

James Young Murdoch, lawyer, mining executive (b at Toronto 29 July 1890; d there 18 Apr 1962). A graduate of Osgoode Hall, Murdoch practised mining law in the Toronto firm Holden and Murdoch 1913-62; he was created King's Counsel in 1929.

Edward Gawler Prior, mining engineer, businessman, premier of BC 1902-03 (b at Dallaghgill, Eng 21 May 1853; d at Victoria 12 Dec 1920). In 1873 Prior immigrated to Vancouver Island, BC, and worked for a mining company in Nanaimo.
