Formed in Scarborough, Ontario, in 1988, the Barenaked Ladies (BNL) first rose to fame in the early 1990s with the release of a demo cassette and a cover of a Bruce Cockburn song, followed by their debut studio album, Gordon (1992), which has since been certified diamond in Canada for sales of more than 1 million copies. Their fourth album, Stunt (1998), sold more than 4 million copies in the United States and yielded the No. 1 hit song “One Week.” Known for their comedic lyrics and quirky alternative rock sound, the Barenaked Ladies were ranked No. 13 on CBC Music’s list of 100 Best Canadian Bands. They have won eight Juno Awards, including three for Best Group, and were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2018.

Catherine (Cathy) Jones, actor, writer (born at St John's 6 April 1955). Cathy Jones attended Holy Heart of Mary High School and by the age of 17 had joined the Newfoundland Travelling Theatre Company with her brother Andy for a summer of touring the province.

Brent Butt, comedian, actor, screenwriter, producer (born at Tisdale, Sask 3 Aug 1966). Brent Butt has parlayed his amiable brand of "coffee shop" humour into a career as a bona fide television star and one of Canada's most successful and recognizable comedians.

In 1977 Lecavalier started dancing professionally with such companies as LE GROUPE NOUVELLE AIRE and Pointépiénu and for independent choreographers in Montréal and New York. As a choreographer, she presented her first work, the solo No, No, No, I Am Not Mary Poppins, in 1982.

 Boardman was promoted to principal dancer in 1985.

Arnold Theodore Spohr, dancer, choreographer, teacher, director (b at Rhein, Sask 26 Dec 1927, d at Winnipeg 12 April 2010). Arnold Spohr was one of the most respected and best-loved figures in Canadian ballet.

 Born of Ukrainian parents in Germany, en route to Belgium, Goy immigrated to Canada with her family in 1951 and grew up in Ottawa.

Anna Wyman, née Schalk, dancer, choreographer, teacher, director (born 1928 in Graz, Austria; died 11 July 2020 in North Vancouver, BC). 

Diane Dufresne, CQ, singer, actress, writer, painter (born 30 September 1944 in Montréal, QC).

Guy Laliberté, OC, OQ, street performer, businessman (born 2 September 1959 in St-Bruno, QC). Laliberté is the fire-breathing accordionist and stilt-walking founder of Cirque du Soleil. He transformed a small band of Québec buskers and street musicians into a performing organization of international repute. Laliberté is also the founder of the One Drop Foundation and in September 2009, he became the first Canadian space tourist.

Bruce McCulloch, actor, director, writer (born at Edmonton 12 May 1961). Bruce McCulloch attended Mount Royal College in Calgary, where he studied journalism and public relations.

Dominique Michel, born Michel-Aimée Sylvestre, actor and singer (b at Sorel, Qué 24 Dec 1932).

André Lewis, dancer, teacher, artistic director (born at Gatineau, Qué). André Lewis has spent more than 35 years of his dance career with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School and Company (RWB).

Alternative rock band 54-40 rose from the Vancouver punk scene of the late 1970s to achieve mainstream success in Canada in the late 1980s and the 1990s. They have had four platinum albums and one gold album and have been nominated for eight Juno Awards. They are perhaps best known for the hit singles “I Go Blind,” “Baby Ran,” “One Day in Your Life,” “Nice to Luv You,” “She La,” “Ocean Pearl” and “Since When,” among others. The band has been inducted into the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame and the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame. “I Go Blind” was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2021.

French-language comedy has evolved considerably following the success of burlesques and cabarets during the first half of the 20th century.

Antonio Barichievich, né Anton Baričević, “the Great Antonio,” Québec strongman, professional wrestler and actor (born 10 or 25 October 1925 in Zagreb, Yugoslavia; died 7 September 2003 in Montréal, QC).

Patrick Huard, comedian, actor, writer, director, producer (born 2 January 1969 in Montreal, QC). Dynamic and charming, Patrick Huard is a multi-talented artist who has enjoyed great success in front of and behind the camera, as well as on stage and radio. One of Canada’s and Quebec’s biggest stars, he has appeared in some of the country’s highest-grossing films, including Les Boys (1997) and its two sequels; the record-breaking, Genie Award-winning comedy Bon Cop Bad Cop (2006), which he also co-wrote; his feature directorial debut, Les 3 p’tits cochons (2007); and Starbuck (2011). He has also starred in several successful Quebec TV series, including the hugely popular Taxi 0-22 (2007–10), which he also produced and directed. He has won numerous awards for his stand-up comedy and comedy writing, and has hosted several Juste pour rire galas, the Gala de l’ADISQ and the Soirée des Jutra (now Prix Iris), as well as several radio programs.
