Irving Kingsbury Fox, professor, resource planner, conservationist (born at Bolton, Michigan 7 December 1916; died at Smithers, BC 20 July 2006).

 Abraham Gesner, geologist, author, chemist, inventor (b near Cornwallis, NS 2 May 1797; d at Halifax, NS 29 Apr 1864). Gesner invented kerosene oil and, because of his patents for distilling bituminous material, was a founder of the modern Petroleum Industry.

Christopher John Raymond Garrett, physical oceanographer (b at Bude, Eng 30 July 1943). Educated at Cambridge, he joined the department of oceanography at Dalhousie University in 1971. Known for his early work with W.H.

John Patrick Gallagher, "Jack," geologist, industrialist (b at Winnipeg 16 July 1916; d at Calgary 16 Dec 1998).

Francis Napier Denison, weather forecaster, engineer, scientist (b at Toronto, Canada W 19 Apr 1866; d at Victoria 24 June 1946). An innovative scientist, Denison was known to thousands of Victorians as "our weatherman.

The Criddle family were naturalists known for detailed and long-term records of fauna and flora at Aweme (near Treesbank), Manitoba, starting with Percy's diaries kept since their arrival from England in 1882.

In 1875 he joined the GEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF CANADA. His survey of BC strongly influenced government decisions on the proposed route of the CANADIAN PACIFIC RY. A charter ROYAL SOCIETY OF CANADA member (1882), Dawson by 1883 was assistant director of the GSC.

Charles Carpmael, meteorologist (b at Streatham Hall, Eng 19 Sept 1846; d in Eng 21 Oct 1894). Carpmael directed the development and extension of the Canadian storm-warning and weather-forecasting services for more than a decade.

Joseph Hiram Grisdale, agronomist (b at Ste-Marthe, Qué 18 Feb 1870; d at Iroquois, Ont 24 Aug 1939). Son of a farmer, trained at OAC and Iowa State Coll, Grisdale joined the staff of the Central Experimental Farm, Ottawa, in 1899, and in 1911 succeeded William SAUNDERS as director.

Charles Gibb, horticulturist (b at Montréal 29 July 1845; d at Cairo, Egypt 8 Mar 1890). Poor health led Gibb to seek an outdoor occupation and in 1872 he established extensive orchards at Abbotsford, Qué, to study fruit culture and arboriculture, and to test plant material from abroad.

Joseph-Clovis-Kemner Laflamme, priest, educator, scientist (b at St-Anselme, Canada E 18 Sept 1849; d at Québec C 6 July 1910). After studying at the SÉMINAIRE DE QUÉBEC and later spending periods at Harvard and in Europe, Laflamme became professor of geology and mineralogy at Laval in 1870.

George Templeman Kingston, meteorologist, (b at Oporto, Portugal 5 Oct 1816; d at Toronto 21 Jan 1886). For successfully promoting and organizing one of Canada's first scientific services, Kingston has been called the father of Canadian METEOROLOGY.

Kenneth Henry Mann, freshwater and marine biologist (born at Dovercourt, England 15 August 1923; naturalized Canadian; died at Halifax, NS 24 January 2010).

Angus Mackay, prairie agriculturist (b near Pickering, UC 10 Jan 1841; d at Indian Head, Sask 10 June 1931). Mackay is reputedly the man who introduced "summer fallow," which some historians consider more important than any other discovery in allowing successful agriculture on the Canadian prairies.

Cedric Robert Mann, physical oceanographer (born at Auckland, New Zealand 14 February 1926; died at Sidney, BC 15 October 2009).

John Seaman Bates, chemist, environmentalist (b at Woodstock, Ont 9 June 1888; d at Sackville, NB 26 Nov 1991). A graduate of Acadia U, in 1914 Bates obtained the first PhD in chemical engineering granted by Columbia U.

Kenneth William Neatby, agricultural scientist (b at Sutton, Eng 30 Mar 1900; d at Ottawa 27 Oct 1958), brother of Hilda NEATBY.

George Lawson Pickard, MBE, oceanographer, educator (born 5 July 1913 in Cardiff, Wales; died 1 May 2007 in Vancouver, BC).

John Patterson, meteorologist (b in Oxford County, Ont 3 Jan 1872; d at Clarkson, Ont 22 Feb 1956). Educated at University of Toronto and Cambridge, Patterson returned to Canada in 1910 after serving in India as professor and imperial meteorologist.

Douglas Humphreys Pimlott, conservationist, wildlife biologist, ecologist, environmentalist (born 4 January 1920 in Quyon, QC; died 31 July 1978 in Richmond Hill, ON). A founder of the modern environmental movement in Canada.
