Slovak Canadians
Slovakia, the land of the Slovaks, is located in Central Europe and borders the Czech Republic and Austria to the west, Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east and Hungary to the south. Slovak Canadians are a deeply religious people, family oriented, and proud of their origin and language, always quick to correct those who refer to them as Czechs or Czechoslovaks. They have been coming to North America since the second half of the 19th century and have contributed significantly to the economic, social and cultural development of Canada. In the 2016 Census of population, 72,290 Canadians reported being of Slovak origin.

Slovenian Canadians
Slovenia is a country in central Europe. It is bordered by Croatia, Hungary, Austria, Italy, and the Adriatic Sea. In the 2016 Canadian census, 40, 475 people reported being of Slovenian origin (13, 690 single and 26, 785 multiple responses).

Slovenian Music in Canada
The first substantial Canadian immigration from Slovenia (the northwestern region of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes, which was renamed Yugoslavia in 1929) occurred 1918-29. Peasants and labourers moved to Ontario, many becoming farmers on the Niagara peninsula.

In 1866 Smith resigned to nurse his ailing father. After his father's death, Smith moved to the US to teach at Cornell. He settled in Toronto in 1871 to be near relatives.

Sneezy (b Peter) Waters (b Hodgson). Singer, guitarist, actor, b Ottawa 1 Mar 1945. He began performing in Ottawa coffeehouses in his late teens and was a member of several local rock bands, including The Children and Rosewood Dream, appearing with the latter at Expo 70, Osaka, Japan.

Snotty Nose Rez Kids
Snotty Nose Rez Kids is a hip-hop music duo comprised of Quinton "Yung Trybez" Nyce and Darren "Young D" Metz. Young D and Yung Trybez grew up in British Columbia and are members of the Haisla Nation. They began making music together in high school. As the Snotty Nose Rez Kids, they have released six albums, been nominated for myriad awards and performed across North America, Australia and Europe. Their music shines a light on many subjects, including the lives, challenges, cultures and hopes of Indigenous peoples in Canada.

Société musicale Ste-Cécile. A 50-voice amateur mixed choir founded 15 Dec 1869 in Quebec City by Antoine Dessane. Dessane, the organist at St-Roch Church at the time, served as the society's president and director until his death in 1873.

When she met Pope Benedict XVI to commemorate her 50 years of religious life, he concluded that, given her good nature and spontaneity, she was “a temple of life.”

Sol Simon Reisman, OC, public servant (born 19 June 1919 in Montreal, QC; died 9 March 2008 in Ottawa, ON). Simon Reisman contributed to significant trade negotiations and agreements.
