Mary F. Bishop
(1913 – 1997)
Mary F. Bishop was born in Cobourg, Ontario. She earned a bachelor’s degree in history and literature at Queen’s University, and later a masters degree at the University of British Columbia. As the spouse of a military attaché, she lived in many places. In Sri Lanka, she began her life-long work in family planning movements. She dedicated her efforts to reproductive rights and population planning. Among the numerous organizations she was associated with were Planned Parenthood of Canada, the International Planned Parenthood Federation, the Canadian Institute of International Affairs and Girl Guides of Canada. She was the author of The Early Birth Controllers of British Columbia (1984).
