Pine Pass

Pine Pass, at an elevation of 874 m, crosses the continental divide northwest-southeast in northeastern British Columbia. The Pine River rises southwest of the pass, then flows northwest to meet the Peace River, near Fort St John.
Valley in the Rocky Mountains.

History

Amongst the more northerly and lowest of the highway passes through the Rocky Mountains, Pine Pass was known to European explorers and settlers as early as 1806, when one of Simon Fraser's men deserted and travelled that way. Joseph Hunter "rediscovered" the pass in 1877 as a potential route for the Canadian Pacific Railway. John Hart Highway crosses it, linking Prince George and Dawson Creek.
