Denis Langelier

(François) Denis Langelier. Administrator, agent, b Coaticook, near Sherbrooke, Que, 3 May 1940. Following studies in philosophy and political economy at the University of Montreal, he worked as an announcer and reporter for radio station CHEF in Granby. He worked in public relations in Montreal and Toronto 1960-7, then became assistant managing director of the TS and co-ordinator of its educational programs. He served 1970-3 as general manager of the MSO. He was a member of the steering committee that established the ACO and was the association's first vice-president. The Canada Council appointed him co-ordinator of information and publicity for its Touring Office in 1974 and he was put in charge of Concerts Canada the following year.

From 1976 to 1981 in Toronto, Langelier operated his own artists' management agency. In 1981 he became the co-ordinator and a teacher of the performing arts management program at Confederation College in Thunder Bay. He subsequently served as general director 1985-6 of the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. In 1986 he became administrative director of the Tudor Singers of Montreal. He is a founding member and in 1988 became president of the Assn des organismes musicaux du Québec.
