Prime Ministers of Canada

As head of the federal government, the prime minister is the most powerful position in Canadian politics. Canada has had 24 prime ministers, beginning with Sir John A. Macdonald in 1867. Several have held the position more than once, including Macdonald, who was prime minister on two separate occasions, five years apart. Others have been in office for lengthy periods, like Sir Wilfrid Laurier, who served for 5,565 consecutive days, from 1896 to 1911. Charles Tupper, on the other hand, was only prime minister for 69 days, while Kim Campbell has been the only woman. This collection brings together articles that explain the role and its history, biographies of each prime minister, as well as a timeline, video and education guides.
