    Ellen Fairclough

    Ellen Louks Fairclough, politician (born on 28 January 1905 in Hamilton, Ontario; died 13 November 2004 in Hamilton). A chartered accountant by profession, she became secretary of state and Canada's first woman federal cabinet minister in John Diefenbaker’s 1957 Conservative government. She was instrumental as head of the Department of Citizenship and Immigration in pushing for less racist immigration policies. She also pushed for granting Status Indians the right to vote (see Indigenous Suffrage.)

    Ellie Black

    Elsabeth “Ellie” Ann Black, ONS, gymnast (born 8 September 1995 in Halifax, NS). Ellie Black is one of the best female Canadian gymnasts of all time. A three-time Olympian, she won gold medals in the women’s all-around event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, at the 2015 and 2019 Pan American Games and at seven Canadian National Gymnastics Championships (2013–15, 2017–19 and 2024). She also finished fifth in the women’s all-around at the 2016 Olympic Summer Games, Canada’s best-ever showing in that event. Black is the first Canadian to win an all-around medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships and the first gymnast ever to win back-to-back gold medals at consecutive Pan American Games. Her 10 Pan Am Games medals are the most ever for a Canadian gymnast.

Elliot Page is a serious, soulful and intelligent actor, and one of Canada’s biggest movie stars. A seasoned child performer, Page started out in Canadian feature films and TV series, winning two Gemini Awards by the age of 18. Page’s intense performance in the American indie Hard Candy (2005) led to high-profile roles in X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) and the indie smash Juno (2007). Juno earned Page an Independent Spirit Award and an Oscar nomination. Adept at quirky comedy (Whip It, Super), intimate drama (Marion Bridge, Mouth to Mouth) and big-budget blockbusters (Inception, the X-Men franchise), Page is equally well-known for environmental activism, advocacy for LGBTQ rights and a grounded, socially-conscious persona.
