Alex Alton (Primary Source)
During the Second World War, Alex Alton served as a Canadian Army dispatch rider with The Highland Light Infantry of Canada Regiment, as the unit participated in the 1944 D-Day landings in Normandy and the Allied push through Northwest Europe that followed. While in Germany, Mr. Alton stepped on a landmine and thereafter lost one of his legs. He explains the role of dispatch riders and the landmine experience.
