Ann Southam. Composer, teacher, b Winnipeg 4 Feb 1937, d Toronto 25 Nov 2010; Licentiate Diploma (Toronto) 1963. Early on, Ann Southam was interested in visual arts, but she turned to composing at age 15 after attending a summer music camp at the Banff School (now The Banff Centre).

Angela Jean Elisabeth Watt, lyric soprano (born 13 November 1915 in Brandon, MB; died 4 June 2017 in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey, England). West Coast lyric soprano Ann Watt enjoyed a high profile singing career in Vancouver in the 1940s. She was perhaps best known for her starring roles with Vancouver’s Theatre Under the Stars and for singing on CBC Radio’s wartime broadcasts. She drew praise for her vivacious and charming performances, her rich and lovely lyric soprano voice and her versatile range. She was inducted into the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame as a pioneer in 2013.

Anna Brownell Jameson, née Murphy, writer, feminist, art historian (b at Dublin, Ire 17 May 1794; d at London, Eng 17 Mar 1860). Anna spent her early adulthood as a governess in England, in 1825 publishing A Lady's Diary

Anna Chornodolska. Soprano, b Vienna, of Ukrainian parents, 21 Apr 1946, naturalized Canadian 1956; premier prix (CMM) 1970, BA (McGill) 1970.

Anna Malenfant. Contralto, teacher, composer (under the name of Marie Lebrun), b Shediac, near Moncton, NB, 16 Oct 1905, d Montreal 15 Jun 1988; honorary D MUS (Moncton) 1975. She began her singing career in Moncton in Gilbert & Sullivan's The Mikado.

Anna (m Hovey) Moncrieff. Pianist, b Winnipeg 1902. A pupil of Mary L. Robertson, J.W. Matthews, and Eva Clare, she performed on the first radio broadcast on CKY, Winnipeg, and in 1932 participated in the opening concert of the Winnipeg Auditorium.

Anna Helene Paquin, actor (born 24 July 1982 in Winnipeg). Anna Paquin is best known for winning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in The Piano (1993) at the age of 11, and for her Golden Globe-winning performance as Sookie Stackhouse in the long-running HBO fantasy-horror series True Blood (2008–14). Born in Canada and raised in New Zealand, she has enjoyed a global profile thanks to her role as Rogue in the X-Men movies while also earning acclaim for her work in such independent films as 25th Hour (2002), The Squid and the Whale (2005) and Margaret (2011). In 2017, she starred in the CBC drama series Bellevue (2017-) and Alias Grace (2017), and was inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame.

Anna Russell, comedienne, contralto, pianist (b at London 27 Dec 1911; d 18 Oct 2006 at Bateman's Bay, Australia). Born Ann Claudia Russell-Brown, her mother was a Canadian, her father a British officer.

Anna Weber, folk painter, fraktur artist (b in Earl Twp, Lancaster County, Pa 3 June 1814; d in Woolwich Twp, Waterloo County, Ont 12 Oct 1888). Weber immigrated to UC in 1825 and, following the death of her parents, moved from one Mennonite family to another until her own death.

Anna Wyman, née Schalk, dancer, choreographer, teacher, director (born 1928 in Graz, Austria; died 11 July 2020 in North Vancouver, BC).

Annabel Lyon, novelist, short story writer (born Brampton, Ont 1971). Annabel Lyon was born in Brampton, Ontario, but moved with her family to Coquitlam, British Columbia when she was a year old.

Annamaria (b Maria Caliopi) Popescu. Mezzo-soprano, b Montreal 24 Feb 1961; diploma (Academy of Vocal Arts, Philadelphia) 1987. Annamaria Popescu grew up in a Romanian Canadian family in Montreal, singing in the Orthodox church at which her father was the priest.

Anne Adamson Campbell. Choir conductor, born Sutherland, near Saskatoon, 16 Jun 1912, died Cochrane, Alta 13 Apr 2011; ATCM piano 1930, L MUS (Saskatchewan) 1932, ATCM voice 1934, honorary LLD (Lethbridge) 1983.

Anne Carson, CM, poet, essayist, classical scholar and professor (born 21 June 1950 in Toronto, ON).

In 1988, Poirier directed Salut Victor!, a telefilm about old age, loneliness and homosexuality, adapted from the Canadian writer Edward O. Phillips.

Anne Compton, poet, critic and professor (born at Bangor, PE, 1947). Anne Compton was raised on Prince Edward Island, in the farming community of Bangor. She attended the University of Prince Edward Island, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree.

Anne Douglas Savage, painter (b at Montréal 27 July 1896; d there 25 Mar 1971). Best known during her lifetime as a pioneer in teaching children's art along progressive lines, Anne Savage's early paintings were initially strongly influenced by the Group of Seven.
