Death of Poet and Novelist Patrick Lane
Poet and novelist Patrick Lane died of a heart attack at the age of 79. An Officer of the Order of Canada, Lane published more than 20 poetry collections and won the Governor General’s Literary Award for poetry in 1978. Howard White of Harbour Publishing called Lane “one of the permanent figures of Canadian poetry. He stands beside Al Purdy and Earle Birney and Margaret Atwood and P.K. Page.”
