Sandra (Alexandra Marguerite) Munn. Pianist, choir conductor, b Calgary 16 Sep 1934; Associate in music (Alberta) 1952, L MUS (Alberta) 1953, LRSM 1953, Diploma (Juilliard) 1955. She studied piano with Gladys Egbert and theory with Phyllis Ford 1946-53 at the University of Alberta and continued on scholarship with Irwin Freundlich 1953-6 at the Juilliard School and, in the summer, in Canada, the USA, and Italy.
Munn's recital debut was before the Calgary Women's Musical Club in 1956 and her debut with orchestra was with the Calgary Philharmonic in 1957, in Beethoven's Concerto No. 3. She has performed often on CBC radio and has toured for JMC (YMC).
In 1962 Munn was appointed to the University of Alberta where she taught piano until her retirement in August 1991. She also conducted the Richard Eaton Singers 1967-73 and the Da Camera Singers 1968-73. She became director of the Edmonton Opera Chorus in 1966. Among her pupils have been Elsbeth Coop, Jane Coop, John Hendrickson, Albert Krywolt, Michael Massey, and Sylvia Shadick.
