Nordheimer, Samuel

Samuel Nordheimer. Music dealer, publisher, financier, b Memmelsdorf, Bavaria, 6 Feb 1824, d Toronto 29 Jun 1912. He was a partner with his brother Abraham in the formation of A. & S. Nordheimer music store and publishing firm, and after his brother's death he managed the company alone until he was joined by his nephew Albert in the 1870s. Samuel was president of the Toronto Philharmonic Society for many years, organized the Chamber Music Association in 1886, and became chairman and chief fundraiser of the Toronto section of the Cycle of Musical Festivals in 1903, but apparently was not a practising musician. He also was president of the Federal Bank of Canada, German consul for Ontario, and a member of various company boards. A Toronto ravine in the vicinity of Samuel's house came to be known as the Nordheimer ravine.
