Margaret Edith Christine Stilwell (b Galbraith). Contralto, b Toronto 26 Sep 1924, d Oakville, Ont, 22 Jun 1988. She studied piano with Marcella Anderson and singing with Albert Whitehead and George Lambert. A member of the Leslie Bell Singers 1939-42, and the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, she was a soloist under Sir Ernest MacMillan in the 1944 CBC Handel/Bach series. In 1952 Stilwell was a soloist in Messiah at Massey Hall with the Mendelssohn Choir, and also sang in Bach's St Matthew Passion, which was recorded (1953, Beaver LPS-002) and was repeated (1954) at Carnegie Hall. She was soloist at Bloor Street United Church and Grace Church on-the-Hill, Toronto, gave CBC recitals, and has sung with orchestras in Halifax, Ottawa, London (Ont), and Winnipeg. She was a member of the Festival Singers of Canada.
