Henry (Morgan) Meredith. Trumpeter, musicologist, teacher, instrument collector, b Douglas, Ariz, 10 Oct 1946; B MUS ED (Indiana) 1968, M MUS (Indiana) 1970, Specialist certificate in multiple arts (Indiana) 1970, D MUS (Northern Colorado) 1984. Meredith has taught trumpet and brass technique for modern and historical instruments and related subjects at the University of Wisconsin 1971-4, the University of Northern Colorado 1974-5, the Baroque Sommer-Akademie in Ebenthal, Austria in 1987, the University of Windsor 1978-88, the WOCM beginning in 1980, and the University of Western Ontario 1975-80, and again beginning in 1984. He has also been active as an adjudicator and clinician. In addition to performing with various orchestras including the Bloomington (Ind) SO, the Te Deum Orchestra, and the London Concert Players, he is the founder of the l'Harmonie Universelle Ancienne, an organization of historical ensembles. Meredith owns a collection of some 1400 brass instruments with sheet music and other related items (see Instrument collections). His dissertation was entitled 'Girolamo Fantini's Trumpet Method (1638): a practical edition,' and he has written articles for publications including Brass World, International Trumpet Guild Journal, and Music Educators Journal. He has recorded with the Great Western Rocky Mountain Brass Band, the Texas Baroque Ensemble, the Rocky Mountain Saxhorn Band, and with ensembles in the London area. He is married to the mezzo-soprano Victoria Meredith.
