Eugène Husaruk

Husaruk, Eugène. Violinist, b Warsaw of Ukrainian parents 2 Mar 1932, naturalized Canadian 1954. He immigrated to Canada in 1949 and studied 1950-3 at the McGill Cons with Alexander Brott. He continued his violin training at the Vienna Academy with Vaša Přihoda and Ricardo Odnoposoff, studied orchestra conducting with Hans Swarowsky, and took summer courses from Yvonne Astruc at the Accademia Chigiana of Siena. During this period he received two scholarships from the Ladies' Morning Musical Club. He joined the MSO in 1957, served 1977-8 and 1979-82 as its concertmaster, and was still a member in 1990. In 1960 he studied with Ivan Galamian and later he worked with Lorand Fenyves. In 1968, as soloist with the MSO, he premiered Fiala's Divertimento Concertante. He participated in SMCQ concerts after 1969 and with that society's ensemble gave the Canadian premiere (1973) of Betsy Jolas's États. He also played this work on CBC TV, which telecast the program in Europe. He has been concertmaster of several CBC radio and TV orchestras and has taken part in performances by the McGill Chamber Orchestra. Husaruk is principal violin in the recording of Gellman's Mythos II conducted by Serge Garant. Husaruk married one of Jean Deslauriers' daughters, Yolande.
