de Rimanoczy Quartet. First major Vancouver string quartet, founded in 1947 by Jean de Rimanoczy (first violin), with John Chlumecky (second violin), Smyth Humphreys (viola), and Audrey Piggott (cello). Piggott was succeeded in 1955 by Malcolm Tait. The quartet was active until 1956, performing frequently on CBC radio and touring at least once in British Columbia and Alberta. It drew its repertoire largely from the standard works but also included pieces by Barbara Pentland and Robert Turner.
