Ada Bronstein (b Lvoff). Pianist, accompanist, teacher, b Harbin, China, 1916, naturalized Canadian 1957. She studied piano in Harbin and Shanghai with Boris Lazareff, pupil and son-in-law of Alexander Siloti. She appeared with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra annually 1936-52 and participated 1948-52 in many concerts of British and French chamber music. She taught privately and 1950-2 at the National Cons in Shanghai, numbering among her pupils the internationally known concert pianist Fou Ts'ong.

Bronstein came to Canada in 1952, settling in Winnipeg, and by 1954 her career was re-established. She has performed in Winnipeg, across Canada, and in the USA and China - as soloist, chamber musician, or accompanist - in some 800 public, radio, and television concerts. She has toured western Canada as the piano partner of Donald Bell, Hyman Bress, Gaelyne Gabora, Marta Hidy, Yi-Kwei Sze, Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, Richard Verreau, George Zukerman, and others. Bronstein joined the Banff SFA in 1969 as accompanist for the strings division, and has given many two-piano recitals there with George Brough. She began teaching accompaniment at the University of Manitoba in 1984. With Dirk Keetbaas she has recorded Leslie Mann'sFive Improvisations for flute and piano.
