Alice Margaret Dalseg Kenny (Primary Source)

In 2010, The Memory Project interviewed Alice Margaret Dalseg (née Kenny), who served with the British Women's Land Army in the Second World War. The following recording (and transcript) is an excerpt from this interview. Alice Margaret Kenny was born in Newton-le-Willows, England, on 24 September 1926. She enlisted in the British Women’s Land Army in 1942, serving as an agricultural labourer in farms across the English countryside. Alice met her first husband, Blythe “Buzz” Boles of the Royal Canadian Air Force, at a dance for servicepeople. She left the Land Army in 1944 when she became pregnant and immigrated to Canada as a war bride in 1946. In the interview, Alice shares details about the uniforms and equipment she was issued, and her experience working at the flax farm. She reflects on what life was like on the rural farms she and her fellow servicewomen were posted to, and what they did for recreation. Alice Margaret Dalseg (née Kenny) died on 27 August 2019 in Perth, Ontario.
