After working for several years in the Canadian retail industry, Brooks and her husband John opened the Unicorn in 1963 - a one-of-a-kind boutique in the heart of Toronto's shopping district. The shop featured apparel for women, housewares and unique pieces displaying Brooks' eccentric aesthetic.

Hugh Graham, Baron Atholstan, newspaper publisher (b at Atholstan, Canada E 18 July 1848; d at Montréal 28 Jan 1938). In 1863 Graham went to work on the Montréal Daily Telegraph and by 1869 became a partner in the new evening paper, the Star.

Donald Gordon, banker, business executive (b at Old Meldrum, Scot 11 Dec 1901; d at Montréal 2 May 1969). Gordon left Scotland when young and joined the Bank of Nova Scotia, working up through the ranks while attending night school.

Douglas H. Fullerton, OC, economist, financial consultant, author (born 3 September 1917 in St. John's, Newfoundland; died 21 December 1996 in Ottawa, ON).

Graham Ford Towers, banker, public servant (b at Montréal 29 Sept 1897; d at Ottawa 4 Dec 1975). Towers served in WWI and graduated from McGill in 1919. Although originally intending to study law, he entered the service of the ROYAL BANK OF CANADA.

Ezra Butler Eddy, manufacturer (b near Bristol, Vt 22 Aug 1827; d at Hull, Qué 12 Feb 1906).

Louis-Joseph Forget, stockbroker, politician (b at Terrebonne, Canada E 11 Mar 1853; d at Nice, France 7 Apr 1911). Forget established his own brokerage firm in Montréal in 1873, dealing mainly in transportation and utility company securities.

Maxwell Charles Gordon Meighen, financier (b at Portage la Prairie, Man 5 June 1908; d at Toronto 25 Feb 1992), son of PM Arthur MEIGHEN.

John David Eaton, merchant (b at Toronto 4 Oct 1909; d there 4 Aug 1973), second son of Sir John Craig EATON. He left Cambridge at age 21 to begin his apprenticeship with the T. EATON CO LTD in the men's wear dept of the Toronto store.

Patrick Martin Draper"Paddy," printer, trade-union leader (b at Aylmer, Qué 1868; d at Ottawa 23 Nov 1943). Apprenticed as a printer, Draper began work at the Government Printing Bureau in Ottawa in 1888, and eventually served as director of printing from 1921 until retirement in 1933.

 Fredrik Stefan Eaton, merchant (b at Toronto 26 June 1938), great-grandson of Timothy EATON and grandson of John Craig EATON; president of the T. EATON CO LTD.

Norris Roy Crump, railway executive (b at Revelstoke, BC 30 July 1904; d at Calgary 26 Dec 1989). Born into a railway family, Crump began with the CANADIAN PACIFIC RAILWAY as a labourer in 1920, taking time off to study science at Purdue University.

Alfred Ernest Ames, investment dealer (b at Lambeth, CW 3 Sept 1866; d at Toronto 20 Sept 1934). He worked as a bank clerk, then moved to Toronto and established A.E. Ames Co, investment dealers, 1889, the same year he married Mary Cox, daughter of financier and senator George Cox.

Henry Franklin Bronson, lumber manufacturer (b at Moreau Twp, Saratoga County, NY 24 Feb 1817; d at Ottawa 7 Dec 1889). In 1852 Bronson and his partner John Harris moved to Bytown [Ottawa] to exploit the timber reserves of the Ottawa Valley, bringing his family the following year.

Augustin Cuvillier, soldier, banker, politician (b at Québec C 21 Aug 1779; d at Montréal 11 July 1849). He attended the Collège de Montréal and became a Montréal merchant and auctioneer, served in the militia during and after the War of 1812, and was promoted to major.

Harry John Carmichael, industrialist (b at New Haven, Conn 29 Sept 1891; d at Toronto 28 Oct 1979). Born in the US of Canadian parents, Carmichael came to Canada and became president and general manager of McKinnon Industries, St Catharines, Ontario, in 1929.

Francis Hector Clergue, financier and industrial promoter (b at Brewer, Maine 28 May 1856; d at Montréal 19 Sept 1939). Born of Huguenot parents, Clergue studied law at Maine State College.

Erskine Henry Bronson, manufacturer, politician (b at Bolton, NY 12 Sept 1844; d at Ottawa 19 Oct 1920). His father, Henry Franklin BRONSON, moved the family to Bytown [Ottawa] in 1853 during an influx of Americans attracted by cheap waterpower at the Chaudière Falls.
