Create AccountThe Baroque Strings of Vancouver. Founded in 1966. The ensemble made its debut at the opening of the JMC (YMC) national string competition in June 1967 and performed with the harpsichordist George Malcolm at the 1967 Vancouver International Festival.
The Anglo-Canadian Music Company. Publishing firm founded 1885 in London by a group of British publishers and established in Toronto later that year under the name Anglo-Canadian Music Publishers' Association.
Archambault Musique. Business concern established in Montreal in 1896 by Edmond Archambault. It began as a sheet music store at the corner of Ste-Catherine and St-Hubert streets and moved later to Ste-Catherine and Berri.
The history of Scottish music in Canada has to be seen against a background of emigration, especially from the Highlands, which effectively started after the failure of the 1745 rebellion, intensified during the Victorian era, and has continued unabated.
CBC Symphony Orchestra. Broadcasting orchestra formed in Toronto in 1952 under the musical direction of Geoffrey Waddington and maintained until 1964. It made its broadcast debut 29 Sep 1952 playing the overture to Rossini's La Cenerentola and Sibelius' Symphony No. 3.
Alberta Choral Federation (Alberta Choral Directors' Association 1972-81). Incorporated in 1972, the organization assumed its current name and extended the scope of its activities and services to choral singers and choirs, as well as directors, in 1981.
Chamber music composition. The term applies to works for from 2 to about 12 parts, intended for one performer per part.
Immigration to Canada by the peoples of this eastern portion of modern Yugoslavia began in significant numbers after World War II, and by 1986 some 12,970 Serbian-Canadians lived and worked in the industrial areas of southern Ontario. Others lived in Ottawa, Montreal, and Vancouver.
Boîtes à chansons. Name given to the intimate rooms which sprang up in the mid-1950s outside the normal entertainment circuits and in which most young Quebec chansonniers made their start.
Big Country Awards. They were established in 1975 by Walt Grealis and Stan Klees of RPM magazine in conjunction with the Canadian Academy for Country Music Advancement (later ACME, see CCMA). Held annually 1975-81, they were supplanted in 1982 by the CCMA Awards but revived in 1985 by RPM.
Border Scottish Choir of Windsor. A mixed-voice choir of 130, founded in 1924 by H.
Boss Brass. Toronto jazz orchestra (big band) led by Rob McConnell. It was formed in 1968 as a 16-piece band composed of the city's leading studio musicians to record arrangements of pop songs of the day for CTL.
Among performers who have appeared at Centennial Hall are: Sarah McLachlan (1996), The Tragically Hip (1998), Diana Krall (2001), George Carlin (2003), Roger Whittaker (2004), k.d. Lang (2008), and Daniel Tosh (2011).
3's a Crowd. Early Canadian folk-rock group, active 1964-9. Initially a folk-comedy trio, it was formed in Vancouver by singer Donna Warner and singer-guitarists Brent Titcomb and Trevor Veitch.
Simple Plan is a rock band that formed in Montréal, Qué, with Pierre Bouvier (vocals), Chuck Comeau (drums), Jeff Stinco and Sebastien Lefebvre (guitars) and David Desrosiers (bass).
