​Solange Chaput-Rolland, OC, OQ, author, television host, politician, senator and advocate for constitutional recognition of Québec’s special status within the Canadian federation (born 14 May 1919 in Montréal, QC; died 31 October 2001 in Sainte-Marguerite-Estérel, QC).

Sidney Robert Carter, art and antique dealer, photographer (b at Toronto 18 Feb 1880; d at Montréal 27 Mar 1956). Carter was an early advocate of pictorialism in photography, and by 1901-02 was exhibiting in London, the US and Canada.

Carman conducted a syndicated newspaper column, essays from which were reprinted in 3 volumes, notably The Kinship of Nature (1903). With Mary Perry King, he collaborated on The Making of Personality (1908) and in that year moved to New Canaan.

Henry Howard Molyneux Herbert Carnarvon, 4th Earl of, politician (b at London, Eng 24 June 1831; d there 28 June 1890). As secretary of state for the colonies 1866-67, Carnarvon supervised the drafting of the BRITISH NORTH AMERICA ACT and steered it through the British Parliament.

Charles Mills Drury, "Bud," public servant, politician (b at Montréal 17 May 1912; d at Gatineau Que 12 Jan 1991). During WWII Drury attained the rank of brigadier, and then was chief of the UN Relief and Rehabilitation Administration in Poland.

After the failed Rebellion of 1837 in Upper Canada, its leader, William Lyon Mackenzie, retreated to Navy Island, in the Niagara River, accompanied by some 200 followers. The Caroline, an American ship based at Fort Schlosser in New York State, was chartered to bring supplies to the rebels. On 29 December 1837, a force of the Upper Canada militia led by Commander Andrew Drew of the Royal Navy found the Caroline moored at Schlosser. In the quick skirmish that followed, an American was killed. The Caroline, set on fire and adrift, capsized before reaching the falls and sank. The incident aggravated the already tense relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States.

Jean “Ti-Jean” Carignan, CM, fiddler (born 7 December 1916 in Lévis, QC; died 16 February 1988 in Delson, QC). Jean Carignan was one of the greatest folk fiddlers of the 20th century and the leading exponent of the Celtic tradition in French Canadian fiddling.

Owen Underhill. Composer, conductor, teacher, flutist, b Regina 26 Jan 1954; B MUS (Victoria) 1975, MA (Stony Brook) 1978. Owen Underhill was raised in Edmonton and Victoria, BC.

John Convey, metallurgist (b at Craghead, Eng 29 Mar 1910; d at Toronto 14 Jan 2006). Having immigrated to Alberta in 1929, he later moved to Ontario, where he earned a PhD in atomic physics at the University of Toronto in 1940.

  Ernest Cormier, architect and engineer (b at Montréal 5 Dec 1885; d there 1 Jan 1980). The son of a physician, Cormier studied civil engineering at Montréal's École polytechnique.

Edward Cornwallis, founder of Halifax in 1749, governor of Nova Scotia from 1749-52, military leader and governor of Gibraltar from 1762-76, (born 22 February 1713 in London, England; died 23 January 1776 in Gibraltar).

Daniel de Rémy de Courcelle, governor of New France 1665-72 (b in France 1626; d there 24 Oct 1698). Courcelle, a nobleman and a military officer, arrived at Québec "breathing nothing but war" and determined to defeat the powerful Iroquois Confederacy.

Dwayne Lyle Congdon, mountaineer and guide (b at Lethbridge, Alta 7 Aug 1956). From a love fostered by his parents on camping trips in the Rockies, Congdon decided in his early 20s to become an Alpine guide.

Willie P. (William Patrick) Bennett. Singer-songwriter, guitarist, mandolin and harmonica player, b Toronto 26 Oct 1951, d Peterborough, Ont, 15 Feb 2008. Willie P. Bennett began writing songs in his teens; 'White Line,' first recorded in 1973 by David Wiffen, was an early effort.

Frank Cosentino, football player, educator (b at Hamilton, Ont 22 May 1937).

Brian Evans Conway, chemistry professor (b at Farnborough, Eng 26 Jan 1927). After obtaining his doctorate from the University of London in 1949, Conway worked as a research associate at the Chester Beatty Cancer Research Institute in London.
