Eloul's characteristic monumental sculptures grace the public spaces of many Canadian cities. His gleaming rectangles of highly polished aluminum or stainless steel are balanced precariously at unusual angles, testing and probing the laws of gravity.

Hector de Saint-Denys Garneau, poet (b at Montréal 13 June 1912; d at Ste-Catherine-de-Fossambault, Qué 24 Oct 1943). Saint-Denys Garneau's writing marks a turning point in the history of Québec poetry.

Frederick Goldwin Gardiner, lawyer, politician (b at Toronto 21 Jan 1895; d there 22 Aug 1983). A law graduate of Osgoode Hall (1920), Gardiner began his political career in 1936 as deputy reeve of Forest Hill, a suburban village in north Toronto.

Sidney Crosby (Sid the Kid), ONS, hockey player (born 7 August 1987 in Cole Harbour, NS). Crosby is a three-time Stanley Cup champion with the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League and a two-time Olympic gold medallist with Canada’s men’s hockey team. He has won the Art Ross Trophy (2007, 2014), the Hart Trophy (2007, 2014), the Ted Lindsay Award (2007, 2013, 2014), the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy (2010, 2017), and the Conn Smythe Trophy (2016, 2017). Crosby has also received the Lou Marsh Trophy as Canada’s top athlete of the year (2007, 2009) and the Lionel Conacher Award as Canada’s male athlete of the year (2007, 2009, 2010).

Charles Fisher, Member of Parliament (1867–68), attorney general of New Brunswick (1854–56, 1857–61), judge, lawyer (born 15 August or 16 September 1808 in Fredericton, NB; died 8 December 1880 in Fredericton).

Fishing Admiral, a position of authority claimed by the first fishing ship's captain to enter each Newfoundland harbour every year, although in some harbours in the 1500s each ship's captain may have taken a turn during the fishing season.

Donald Methuen Fleming, lawyer, politician (b at Exeter, Ont 23 May 1905; d at Toronto 31 Dec 1986). Minister of finance in the DIEFENBAKER government (1957-62), Fleming is best remembered for his dispute with Bank of Canada Governor James COYNE.

Henry James William Finn, expatriate actor, playwright (b at Sydney, NS 17 June 1787; d 13 Jan 1840). Taken to New York as a child, he travelled to London, eventually acting small parts at Haymarket Theatre 1811-12.

(John) Edgar Birch. Organist, conductor, teacher, b Reading, England, 25 Aug 1854, d Ottawa 23 Oct 1931. He was a chorister in the Chapel Royal and studied in London. He emigrated to Canada to teach at Trinity College School, Port Hope.

Peter Matthews, farmer, rebel (b in Marysburgh or Sidney Twp, Qué [later UC] 1789 or 1790; d at Toronto 12 Apr 1838). The son of Loyalists, Matthews was a prosperous farmer and leading figure in Pickering Township.

Honoré Mercier, lawyer, politician, premier of Québec (b at St-Athanase, Qué 15 Oct 1840; d at Montréal 30 Oct 1894).

Dave Broadfoot, humorist, writer, performer, producer, director (born 5 December 1925 in Vancouver, BC; died 1 November 2016). Dave Broadfoot is an internationally known comedian who has probably provoked more laughter from Canadians than any performing artist in English Canada.
