Robert Charlebois, singer, actor, songwriter, guitarist, pianist (b at Montréal 25 June 1944). As well as studying music (6 years of piano), Charlebois studied dramatic arts at the National Theatre School in Montréal from 1962 to 1965.

Henri-Raymond Casgrain, historian, literary critic (b at Rivière-Ouelle, Qué, 16 Dec 1831; d at Québec City, 12 Jan 1904). Casgrain was ordained a priest in 1856. After teaching at his former college, Ste-Anne-de-la-Pocatière, he was named vicar at BEAUPORT and then at Notre-Dame de Québec.

Yvon Deschamps, actor, comedian (b at Montréal 1935) left school early and worked at Radio-Canada as a messenger before taking private drama lessons from Paul Buissonneau. Deschamps played his first roles at the Théâtre Universitaire Canadien with Paul Hébert in 1958-59.

Renée Claude, stage name of Renée Bélanger, singer (b at Montréal 3 July 1939). While her early repertoire consisted of French songs, Claude soon became known for her interpretation of songs by Québec writers such as Jean-Pierre FERLAND, Stéphane Venne, Clémence Desrochers and Luc PLAMONDON.

Jean Papineau-Couture. Composer, educator, administrator, b Montreal 12 Nov 1916, d there 11 Aug 2000; B MUS (New England Conservatory) 1941, honorary D MUS (Chicago Conservatory College) 1960, honorary LLD (Saskatchewan) 1967. He was a grandson of Guillaume Couture and Mercédès Papineau.

James Coleman (Jim), journalist (b at Winnipeg 30 Oct 1911; d at Vancouver 14 Jan 2001). Coleman grew up in the 1920s criss-crossing North America to attend sporting events.

Benjamin Chee Chee, artist (born Kenneth Thomas Benjamin 26 March 1944 in Temagami, ON; died 14 March 1977 in Ottawa, ON).

Michel Campeau, photographer (b at Montréal 16 Mar 1948).

By the early 1950s, he had national prominence through his participation in numerous Canadian and international exhibitions, and in 1952 was one of 4 artists in Canada's first official participation at the Venice Biennale. He became the first artist-in-residence at UNB in 1959.

Gerald Potterton, director, producer, animator (b at London, UK 8 Mar 1931). Gerald Potterton trained at the Hammersmith School of Art in London and served in the Royal Air Force.

Gordon Arthur Delamont, teacher, author, composer, trumpeter (born 27 October 1918 in Moose Jaw, SK; died 16 January 1981 in Toronto, ON). Gordon Delamont was a leading music educator and theorist, and a guiding figure in Canada in the third-stream movement — a synthesis of classical music and jazz.

Paul Chamberland, poet (b at Longueuil, Qué 16 May 1939). Chamberland was the most iconoclastic Québec poet of the 1960s and one of the most innovative essayists of the 1970s.

Morton Sahl, standup comedian, actor (born at Montréal 11 May 1927). Mort Sahl, whose parents were American, was brought up in California. After high school he served in the air force before earning a degree in city management and engineering from the University of Southern California in 1953.

Marc-André Hamelin, pianist (b at Montréal 5 Sep 1961). After his training in Montréal, he studied in Philadelphia at Temple University with Harvey D. Wedeen and Russell Sherman.
