Ann Meekitjuk Hanson, CM, journalist, broadcaster, philanthropist, commissioner of Nunavut (born 22 May 1946 in Qakutut, Northwest Territories). Hanson has spent much of her professional life in the public sector service, furthering the development of Nunavut and its people through her media and philanthropic work.

(Barbara) Ann Burrows. Teacher, critic, b Entrance, west of Edmonton, 16 Jul 1922; ARCM 1945, M MUS (Indiana) 1964, honorary LL D (Alberta) 1987. Her teachers included Frank Merrick and Frank Howes at the RCM 1942-6, Boris Roubakine in Banff, and Raymond Dudley and György Sebök at Indiana U.

Annabel Lyon, novelist, short story writer (born Brampton, Ont 1971). Annabel Lyon was born in Brampton, Ontario, but moved with her family to Coquitlam, British Columbia when she was a year old.

Gil Courtemanche, journalist, columnist, writer (born 18 August 1943 at Montréal, Québec; died 19 August 2011 at Montréal). From the beginning of his journalistic career in 1962, Courtemanche took an interest in public affairs and international issues.

Antoine Gérin-Lajoie, journalist, lawyer (1848), public servant, writer (b at Yamachiche, LC 4 Aug 1824; d at Ottawa 4 Aug 1882). As a student at Nicolet College, he wrote the poem "Un Canadien errant" (1842) and Le Jeune Latour (1844), the first Canadian tragedy.

Réjean Ducharme, OQ, writer (born 12 August 1941 in Saint-Félix-de-Valois, Québec; died 21 August 2017 in Montréal). Prominent Québécois novelist, playwright, scriptwriter and lyricist, Réjean Ducharme guarded his privacy since his first novel, L'Avalée des avalés, was published in 1966. He was never seen in public, and was admired as much for the uniqueness of his works as for the mythology surrounding him.

John Wesley Dafoe, journalist and liberal reformer (born 8 March 1866 in Combermere, Canada West; died 9 January 1944 in Winnipeg, Manitoba).

Carman conducted a syndicated newspaper column, essays from which were reprinted in 3 volumes, notably The Kinship of Nature (1903). With Mary Perry King, he collaborated on The Making of Personality (1908) and in that year moved to New Canaan.

Henri-Raymond Casgrain, historian, literary critic (b at Rivière-Ouelle, Qué, 16 Dec 1831; d at Québec City, 12 Jan 1904). Casgrain was ordained a priest in 1856. After teaching at his former college, Ste-Anne-de-la-Pocatière, he was named vicar at BEAUPORT and then at Notre-Dame de Québec.

Arthur Buies, baptized Joseph-Marie-Arthur, journalist, chronicler, essayist (b at Montréal 24 Jan 1840; d at Québec City 29 Jan 1901). A lucid witness to and passionate participant in the late 19th-century ideological battles, Buies left behind a body of exceptional works which are not well known.

Gaston Miron, poet, publisher (born 8 January 1928 at Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, QC; died 14 December 1996 in Montréal, QC). An Officer of the National Order of Québec and a Commandeur de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres, one of France’s highest honours.

Guy Frégault, historian (b at Montréal 16 June 1918; d at Québec C 13 Dec 1977). Frégault pursued classical studies at Saint-Laurent and Jean-de-Brébeuf colleges in Montréal. He then enrolled in Université de Montréal and eventually completed his PhD in history at Loyola University, Chicago in 1949.

Yves Beauchemin, writer (b at Noranda, Québec; d 26 June 1941). Before becoming a Radio-Québec researcher, Beauchemin taught and worked in publishing.

Pierre Bourgault, journalist, politician, author and professor (born 23 January 1934 in East-Angus, QC; died 16 June 2003 in Montréal, QC). A talented public speaker and advocate of the French language, Bourgault was a pioneer of the Québec sovereignty movement.
