Many of Nova Scotia's HISTORIC SITES reflect the wealth that was made from the sea; the Fishermen's Life Museum tells the story of the ordinary men and women who made a living from fishing. This historic site in Jeddore Oyster Pond, NS, was built in 1857 by a fisherman, James Myers.

Sherbrooke Village in Sherbrooke, NS, is unusual in that it is not a collection of historic buildings moved into a reconstructed townsite, but rather the older portion of the actual village of Sherbrooke.

McCulloch House in PICTOU, NS, was built in about 1806 for Thomas MCCULLOCH, one of the Maritimes' leading educators and a theologian, writer and scholar of note. McCulloch arrived in Pictou in 1803 on his way to Prince Edward Island.

Located 21 km north of Winnipeg, Kenosewun Visitor Centre and Museum is a provincially operated facility. The archaeological site interprets the evolution of Aboriginal cultures in the Red River area.

In 1858 the Point Amour Lighthouse was built to help sailors through the dangerous waters of the Strait of Belle Isle between Labrador and Newfoundland.

Shand House in WINDSOR, NS, is an ornate Victorian residence built by Clifford and Henrie Shand in 1890 as a family home. Clifford Shand was a noted bicycle racer and the son of a Windsor furniture manufacturer, and the interior of the house reflects this association with fine woodworking.

 Perkins House in LIVERPOOL, NS, was built for Simeon PERKINS, who came from Connecticut and was one of the town's leading citizens in the late 18th century. Perkins was a merchant, shipowner and a colonel in the militia as well as being a judge and a member of the legislative assembly.

Commissariat House is a provincial HISTORIC SITE (designated in1977) located in ST JOHN'S, NL, and is an excellent example of Georgian architecture. Constructed between 1818 and 1820, it was built to house the Commissariat

 The cliff is on a big rock of white crystalline granite, which contrasts with the red paintings although mineral traces, lichens and graffiti have damaged them in some places.

​Province House in Charlottetown is the home of Prince Edward Island's Legislative Assembly.

Black Creek Pioneer Village, Toronto, Ont, depicts life as it was in rural UPPER CANADA [Ontario] before 1867. The nucleus comprises 5 buildings constructed on the site by Daniel Stong, including a 3-room cabin built 1816.

Ross Farm, at New Ross, NS, 28 km north of Chester, dates from 1816, when Captain William Ross led 172 disbanded soldiers into the Nova Scotia interior to establish an agricultural settlement.

Balmoral Grist Mill in Balmoral Mills, NS, was built in about 1874 by Alexander MacKay. The mill is located on Matheson's Brook and was once just one of 5 mills on the brook. It was used to grind local stocks of wheat, oats, barley, rye and buckwheat to produce flour and oatmeal.

The hall's excellent acoustics were attributed to its oak-panelled walls. For a long time free noon-hour recitals were given daily by the organist Herbert Sanders.

Hearts Content Cable Station is a provincial HISTORIC SITE commemorating one of the most significant events in the 19th century: the laying of a trans-Atlantic TELEGRAPH cable in 1866 from Ireland to HEART'S CONTENT, NL.

The site is important because it confirms that Centrosaurus was a herding dinosaur, and documents that the herds were larger than previously thought, numbering well into the thousands.

​On 25 July 2014, Canada marks the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Lundy’s Lane, one of the bloodiest battles of the War of 1812. The first milestone commemoration was held in 1914, when, just days before the start of the First World War, crowds of people gathered to celebrate 100 years of peace.
