Yuval R. Fichman. Pianist, b Tel Aviv, 21 Mar 1965, naturalized Canadian 1972; ARCT 1981. His family moved to Toronto in 1967 and in 1976 he continued his piano studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music with Mildred Kenton and Andrew Markow. Fichman received its gold medal in 1981, then studied privately with Anton Kuerti and, on a Canada Council grant in 1984, with Fanny Waterman in England. He also worked with Leon Fleisher and Patricia Parr. He won first prize in the 1981 Montreal Symphony Orchestra (MSO) Concours and made his debut with the MSO and the Toronto Symphony in 1982. He has continued to appear as a guest soloist with orchestras throughout Canada and the US, and performed with the MSO on its 1984 European tour and with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra on its 1985 Japanese tour. He has given recitals in Canada, made his London debut in Wigmore Hall in 1985, and gave a recital at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, in 1988. He performed in Jerusalem in 1992. Fichman appeared in two Rhombus Media films: Opus I No. 1 (1978) and Opus II (1982). Fichman made several recordings of Chopin from 1990 to 2000. He also recorded Howard Shore's Piano Four for the Rhombus Media film Last Night.
