Pierre Bertrand. Singer, songwriter, guitarist, b Montreal 11 Aug 1938. From 1973 to 1977 he composed, sang, and played bass guitar as a member of the group Beau Dommage, composing several hits ('Tous les palmiers,' 'Le Picbois,' 'Rouler la nuit,') and making records.

After the group disbanded, he played guitar for Paul Piché and, with Michel Hinton, wrote for him the music of 'À côté de toi'. In 1981 he began a solo career with his first LP Pierre Bertrand (Beaubec BB-105). His relaxed style, his subdued voice and his simple ballads soon won him a large public. In August 1983 his 'Un air d'.été' reached first place on the Radio-activité chart. That year he launched his second LP, Ciel variable (Poly 2424-247). Many songs became hits: 'Ma blonde m'aime,' 'Jamais aimé avant' and 'Attendre à l'année longue'. In 1984 he undertook a series of shows across Quebec with the group Hollywood and Wine. With Francine Raymond, he recorded the song for the celebrations of the 450th anniversary of Quebec City (1984) composed by Stéphane Venne, 'Un été mer et monde,' which he performed at the Club Soda, among other places. He has sung in France, in Switzerland and in Belgium, and represented Canada at the Liège Festival in 1985. In 1986, he composed the song for the film Le Matou. The following year, he released Espérance on LP and CD (Poly 833-169-1). When referring to Bertrand's songs, Jean-François Doré has stated that they 'have no pretensions other than just being, and being well made, well designed, well arranged and well worth hearing.
