Ensemble vocal André-Martin. Vocal ensemble founded in August 1983 in Quebec City by André Martin (b Quebec City 13 Dec 1943), a musician and teacher at the Ste-Foy Cegep from 1980. The ensemble is made up of some 20 experienced choristers and a few professional singers. The group has established a niche for itself in Quebec musical life, both for its eclectic repertoire, which is mainly centred on polyphonic music, and for the originality of its programs. The major works it has performed include Handel's Judas Maccabeus, Vivaldi's Gloria, Poulenc's Quatre motets pour le temps de Noël, and Bach's Mass in B Minor given in conjunction with the Laval University Choir and the Quebec Symphony Orchestra under Simon Streatfeild. It has also given the Quebec premieres of such works as the Prophetiae Sibyllarum by Lassus, Scarlatti's Stabat Mater, Langlais's Messe solennelle, and Pierick Houdy's Suite de Noël. The ensemble performed at the Choralies internationales held in Quebec City in 1985 and 1987, and it again joined the Laval University Choir to celebrate the 'Splendors of Venetian Art,' in a concert for double choir, soloists, and early instruments. In 1990 the ensemble represented Quebec at an international choral gathering in Val-d'Oise, France. The ensemble's productions also include broadcasts recorded with the CBC Chamber Orchestra in Quebec City.
