(John) Carlisle Wilson. Violinist, teacher, adjudicator, b Winnipeg 21 May 1944; AMM 1953, BFA (Wisconsin) 1958, B ED (Manitoba) 1973. Carlisle Wilson's teachers included Egon Grapentin, Anne Pomer, Victor Pomer, George Rutherford, and John Waterhouse, all in Winnipeg, and Abram Loft at the University of Wisconsin. In 1977 he was appointed instrumental music consultant for the Winnipeg school system. He joined the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in 1977, was conductor of the Winnipeg Junior Youth Orchestra 1977-9, and became conductor of the Winnipeg Youth Orchestra in 1979. He was named president of the Canadian Association of Youth Orchestras in 1987.

Carlisle's daughter is the conductor and flutist Keri-Lynn Wilson. Carlisle's two other children also pursued musical studies.
